With the initiation of the Embassy of RA in Japan and the Japanese coordinating committee for the events of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide and with the assistance of “Golden Apricot” Yerevan International Film Festival and the Ministry of Culture of RA, from April 25 to 27 in the “Uplink” cinema hall in Tokyo there were organized film exhibition events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. During the events there were shown the following films: “Ararat” by Atom Egoyan, “Mother” by Anri Verno, “The Color of Pomegranate” by Sergey Parajanov and “Neighbours” by Gor Baghdasaryan.
Hundreds of Japanese were present at the exhibitions, among them scientists, historians, art lovers, representatives of diplomatic missions in Tokyo, public-political figures, journalists, and members of the Armenian community. At the launch of the event, the Japanese film critic and producer Chiseko Tanaka presented the films to the audience. During the same days, the Japanese magazine “Nature and Humanity” published Chiseko Tanaka’s article with the title “100 Years Past the Genocide: Approaching the Armenian Reality by Means of Films”.
