The Rector of Armenian State University of Economics Diana Galoyan received Japanese Ambassador Fukushima and the second secretary of the embassy Rika Onodera, after which the Ambassador had a meeting with the academic personnel of the university. Greeting the honored guest, Diana Galoyan attached great importance to the perspective of the development of the Armenian-Japanese relations.

“I hope the ambassador’s visit will open wide opportunities for ASUE in terms of starting and promoting cooperation with Japanese universities. We admire the example of Japan in the field of education, rich culture, rapid development of information technologies. I am convinced that this visit, which is the first, but certainly not the last, will create stable bases for long-term cooperation, “noted the Rector.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, the Ambassador said that he would do everything to deepen the Armenian-Japanese economic ties, as well as contribute to the establishment and strengthening of cooperation between ASUE and Japanese universities. The Ambassador expressed confidence that the agreements reached during the visit will create a basis for future exchange programs for lecturers and students as well as mutual visits.

According to Masanori Fukushima, ASUE students are talented, and the ambassador personally got acquainted with ASUE student Davit Melkumyan, who took the first place in the annual Japanese language competition this year, encouraging the young man to become more proficient in learning Japanese. Masanori Fukushima himself already knows some Armenian words and expressions. He informed about this and wished a successful start to the friendly relations in the Armenian language afterwards.

Then, the audience listened to the open lesson of subject “Japanology” and a thematic presentation was shown on the Armenian-Japanese economic, educational and cultural ties.

Although close communication with the Japanese diplomat is only in the beginning stage, but ASUE students started to get acquainted with Japanese culture and country peculiarities since last year, when the subject “Japanology” was introduced in ASUE Chair of International Economic Relations which was entrusted to Anna Vardanyan a lecturer at the Department of Finance, Candidate of Economics and Japanologist. With new and interesting teaching methods, she helps students to study the Armenian-Japanese relations, especially the experience of one of the developed countries in different branches of the economy.

Anna Vardanyan, who has been engaged in Japanology for about 20 years is the author of several discoveries on Armenia-Japan historical-cultural relations. She was the first exchange student from ASUE who left for Japan, where she spent two years studying. As she conveyed, next year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Armenia-Japan diplomatic relations, within the framework of which various scientific and cultural events will be organized, in which ASUE will also participate.
