Diplomatic relations between Japan and Armenia were established in 1992. Since then our two countries have been developing friendly relations as partners who share the basic values such as democracy and market economy.
In June 2012, H.E. Mr.Serzh Sargsyan, the President of the Republic of Armenia, paid an official visit to Japan, during which the “Joint Statement on Further Deepening of Friendship and Partnership between Japan and the Republic of Armenia” was signed. Based on this document, steady progress is now being made in such fields as political dialogue, parliamentary exchanges, cooperation in disaster prevention, economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and cooperation in the international fora.
In January 2015, the Embassy of Japan opened in Yerevan. I believe that this long-awaited inauguration of the Embassy marked the beginning of a new stage of our bilateral cooperation.
I officially started my duties as Japan’s first resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia in June 2015. It is a great honour to have the opportunity to work in this beautiful country with a rich history and I will commit myself to further promote the Japan-Armenia relations in a broad range of fields.

Eiji Taguchi
Ambassador of Japan to Armenia
