“Plans are being developed in order to restore Such Historical Monuments as the Symbolic Veranda from the Movie “The Tango of Our Childhood”: Gohar Grigoryan

On March 2, at the hotel “Silk Road”, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) there launched in Yerevan a seminar-discussion with the title “The Maintenance of the Armenian Historical and Cultural Heritage and the Role of the Communities there”. The representatives of historical towns of Armenia also took part in it. There were present at the seminar the adviser of the Embassy of Japan in Armenia Sasame Kenichiro, the program design adviser of JICA Uzbekistan office Azuma Kenejiro, the deputy minister of culture Arev Samuelyan, the representative of the office of Europe Council Sarhat Petrosyan and the representatives of the communities of Armenia.

In the frameworks of the project there was also published the package of postcards “10 Historical Towns of Armenia”, which according to the attendees is a good variant for introducing Armenia to the tourists.

During the interview for “Aravot” the chief specialist of the Department of Cultural Heritage and Folk Arts of the Staff of the Ministry of Culture of RA, the national coordinator of COMUS program during the days of European heritage Gohar Grigoryan said that COMUS program has announced the towns of Gyumri and Goris as pilot towns. The program aims at carrying out the maintenance of historical and cultural heritage by means of new methodology and new tools of management.

Referring to Yerevan Gohar Grigoryan said that it is true that many old buildings are changed and are used for private business today but the given department takes steps in order to maintain the core of the city. “All those buildings, which are in danger of perishing are in the focus of attention of the Ministry of Culture and especially under the attention of the minister. There are organized discussions and meeting in the result of which there are developed programs in order to restore such historical monuments as the symbolic veranda from the movie “The Tango of Our Childhood”.
