Japan is ready to expand the Frameworks of Cooperation with Armenia

Today on May 18, the Acting Minister of the Emergency Situations of RA Andranik Piloyan received the newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan in Armenia Fukushima Massanori. Greeting the guest A. Piloyan congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and expressed confidence that during his tenure the cooperation between the two countries will continue and new achievements will be registered.

During the meeting, the interlocutors both stressed the importance of continuing the high-level relations established between Armenia and Japan. A. Piloyan expressed gratitude for the effective cooperation with Japan and highlighted that the Government of Japan has made a significant contribution to the Republic of Armenia in the development of civil resilience capabilities and technical facilities of the Rescue Service. There is a particularly close cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The ambassador Fukushima Massanori noted that the Government of Japan will continue cooperation in the given directions and is willing to support the development of Armenia in other spheres as well, from the humanitarian projects to the trade-economic and cultural ones. An agreement has been reached to visit the Town of Spitak in the nearest future, where in the central park a khachkar (cross-stone) was raised in 2013 in memory of the victims of the earthquake in Japan.

“In this respect the Armenian and Japanese nations have the same fate: we have experienced the same tragedy, this khachkar (cross-stone) is a symbol of the friendship of our nations,” said Ambassador Masanori.

A number of other issues of mutual interest were also touched upon during the meeting.
