YEREVAN, April 21–Sputnik. The film “Sabre Dance” about the great Armenian composer Aram Khachaturyan will be released in Japan at the end of July. This was announced on Facebook by the general producer of the film Ruben Dishdishyan.

“It’s unbelievable! The film, which we made with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, National Cinema Center of Armenia and DMH studio, will be released in Japan. Thanks to everyone and separately to Tigran Manasyan, Karen Ghazaryan, Armo Hayrapetyan, Armen Harutyunyan, Aram Movsesyan and Shushanik Mirzakhanyan! Best of luck to our Japanese distributors and wish the film be watched by the maximum number of viewers”, wrote Dishdishyan.

The film is dedicated to the history of creation of Khachatryan’s famous masterpiece from the ballet “Gayane” – “Sabre Dance”. The action takes place in the autumn of 1942 in Molotov (Perm), where Khachaturyan was in evacuation together with Leningrad Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Kirov (Mariinsky Theater). Right here before the last rehearsal of “Gayane” he suddenly receives an order from the directorate to create one more dance for the finished final part of the ballet. He wrote this passage in just a few hours.

The world premiere of the film took place on November 7, 2019.

The film director is Yusup Razikov, the role of Khachaturyan was played by the Russian actor of the Armenian origin Hambardzum Kabanyan. Other roles were played by the actors Sergey Yushkevich, Veronica Kuznetsova, Inna Stepanova, Ivan Rizhikov, Vadim Skvirskiy, Alexey Nazarov, Arman Navasardyan, Alexander Ilyin Junior and Alexander Kuznetsov, who died in June last year and who played one of his last roles. The general producer of the film is Ruben Dishdishyan.

The shooting of the film took place in 2018 in two blocks: the first one was in Russia, in Yaroslavl and the Yaroslavl region, the second one was in Armenia, including the building of the National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet named after A. Spendiaryan and in the monastery of Khor Virap.
