Japan will Provide Armenia with 39 Fire-Fighting Trucks

PanARMENIAN.Net – The Government of Japan envisages to provide Armenia with 39 fire-fighting trucks.
On December 19, the Director of Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of RA, r/s colonel Mushegh Ghazaryan and the Chief Adviser to the Director General of the Industry Development and Public Policy Department of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Hiroyuki Hayashi have signed the Minutes of Discussion on the preparatory survey of the project “Improvement of Fire-fighting Rescue Equipment in Armenia”.
On December 6-20, the delegation headed by Hiroyuki Hayashi was sent to Armenia for the purpose of implementing project development sketch works.
The members of the delegation had a number of meetings and discussions with the corresponding officials of the Government of RA.
The main objective of the grant project “Improvement of Fire-fighting Rescue Equipment in Armenia” is to modernize the equipment and vehicles of the fire-fighting rescue divisions of Syunik, Lori and Shirak regions of the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of RA. This will contribute to the economic and social development of the mentioned regions.
According to the grant project, the Government of Japan envisages to provide Armenia with 36 fire-fighting rescue trucks, 3 ladder trucks, portable workshops and spare parts, which will complete the technical bases of the above-mentioned regions.
In 2010, in the frameworks of the project “Improvement of Fire-fighting Equipment of Yerevan City”, Japan International Cooperation Agency granted the Ministry of Emergency Situations 28 fire-fighting rescue trucks.
In 2010-2012, in the frameworks of the joint project “Seismic Risk Assessment in Armenia and Management Planning”, with the support of the Japanese there was assessed the seismic risk of Yerevan City. There was developed the possible scenario of a strong earthquake in the capital and there was analyzed the vulnerability of the houses and building in Yerevan. There was also drafted a seismic disaster management plan and there was introduced a new system of distribution of seismic intensity in Yerevan based on 5 modern digital seismographs, the data of which are registered at Crisis Management National Center (CMNC).
Since 2014, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are implementing a three-year project “Landslide Risk Management in Armenia”.
Due to the Armenian-Japanese cooperation, many employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia have been sent to Japan for the purpose of training and exchange of experience.
