For those who Love Japan: an Excerpt from Monte Melkonyan’s Biography

He was born on November 25, 1957, in the USA, in the family of Armenians who have survived from the Genocide and have settled down in Visalia town of California, USA. In the summer of 1972, fifteen years old Monte Melkonyan finishes secondary school. Before the beginning of the new academic year at high school, with the suggestion of the school headmaster David Grimes he leaves for Japan to continue his education in the most prestigious school of the country – “Tokyo Kamata High School”. The decision to sent Monte to Japan wasn’t made by chance: for a long time he has attended karate classes and was the champion of California State of the karate group for the children under 14. He has studied the Japanese culture; he has also attended classes of the Japanese language. After graduating from the high school of the Japanese town of Osaka in a year and a half, he leaves for Southern Korea.
