On February 13, the Annual Meeting of the JICA Alumni Association of Armenia was held, during which the results of the 2025 fiscal year were summarized.

The participants were welcomed with opening remarks by Mr. Wakui Junji, Resident Representative of the JICA Georgia Office. Greeting remarks were also delivered by Ms. Yoko Anazawa, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Japan to the Republic of Armenia. The event brought together representatives of partner ministries and agencies, as well as alumni of JICA training programs. During the meeting, the results of two Mini Grant projects implemented with JICA funding in the current fiscal year were presented:

“Disaster Risk Management in Schools in Tavush Region” The project aimed to enhance the preparedness of schoolchildren and educational institutions in the field of disaster risk management. The project was implemented by Ms. Mariam Musayelyan, Senior Instructor of the Emergency Planning Division, Population Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction Department of the Rescue Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. “Japanese Methodologies for Rapid Post-Earthquake Inspection of Building Conditions and Experience in Structural Evaluation and Seismic Retrofitting” Within the framework of the project, lectures were conducted for specialists from various levels of the sector, creating a foundation for further cooperation and methodological development. The project was implemented by Mr. Vardan Hayrapetyan, Head of the Department for Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Specially Important and Publicly Important Facilities, Regional Survey of Seismic Protection, Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. The results of a follow-up seminar on community-based tourism development based on Japanese experience were also shared by Ms. Anahit Voskanyan, Advisor at the Department of Marketing and Promotion of the Tourism Committee, Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia. The meeting also highlighted the participation of JICA alumni in the “Building Bridges” Forum held within the framework of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. Armenia was represented by Mr. Gevorg Orbelyan, Director of the Yerevan History Museum and representative of the JICA Alumni Association of Armenia, and Colonel Armen Dashyan, Deputy Head of the Population Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction Department of the Rescue Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs of RA. We sincerely thank all speakers, alumni members, and partners for their active participation and continued cooperation. A new fiscal year lies ahead with new initiatives and opportunities. I wish us all a productive and fruitful year, and I look forward to meeting again next year to share new achievements
