A meeting was held at the Ministry of Environment with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

Welcoming the guests, Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan highly praised the effective cooperation established between Armenia and Japan. He noted that Armenia attaches great importance to expanding cooperation with Japan in the field of environmental protection, particularly in the areas of biodiversity conservation, water resources management, and the restoration of natural ecosystems.

He noted that Armenia attaches great importance to expanding cooperation with Japan in the field of environmental protection, particularly in the areas of biodiversity conservation, water resources management, and the restoration of natural ecosystems.

The Deputy Minister also referred to the 17th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, which will be held in Armenia in 2026, emphasizing that such international platforms not only facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience but also create new opportunities for strengthening international partnerships and advancing the global environmental agenda. During the meeting, the participants discussed prospects for cooperation in the conservation of Lake Sevan and its surrounding ecosystems, as well as the implementation of potential project initiatives within the framework of Japan’s technical cooperation.

During the discussion, the participants addressed issues related to the ecological balance of Lake Sevan, water resources management, biodiversity conservation, and the restoration of endemic fish species. It was noted that, with the support of various partners, programs are being implemented to improve water quality, strengthen wastewater management, and promote the sustainable development of local communities. However, it was emphasized that a comprehensive and long-term approach is essential to ensure the conservation and restoration of Lake Sevan’s ecosystems.
