It has been already 6 years that “HIKARI” Armenian-Japanese Scientific, Educational and Cultural Center annually organize an event commemorating the innocent victims of the towns of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This year, despite the extension of the state of emergency imposed by the commandant’s office, however there was obtained a permission to conduct a small event in order not to break the kind tradition. There were present at the event the Chairman of the Culture, Education, Science, Social Affairs Committee of the Yerevan Council of Elders Satenik Mkrtchyan, the President of “HIKARI” NGO Karine Piliposyan, students of the center and guests.

The organizers of the event read the message of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan in the Republic of Armenia H․E․ Jun Yamada.

Then there were short speeches. The guest of the event was Kent Suzuki, who is known for his unique attitude to Armenia and the Armenian culture. He played on the Armenian duduk the exciting work “Otar, amayi champeki vra” (“On the Foreign, Empty Roads”).

During the event the attendees honored a minute of silence in memory of the innocent victims and laid flowers at the Memorial of the Covenant of Peace.

“On August 6, 1945 one atomic bomb destroyed our city. In those times the news said that “nothing would grow here for a century”. And now Hiroshima has revived and has become a symbol of peace”, said the mayor Kazumi Matsui.
