A recital by Sergey Khachatryan (violin) and Momo Kodama (piano) will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Hamarikyu Asahi Hall.
Born in Armenia, Sergey Khachatryan is a renowned violin virtuoso who became the youngest-ever winner of the International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition. In 2005, he won First Prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition. He has performed with major orchestras around the world, particularly in Europe and the United States, including the San Francisco Symphony, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. He currently plays the 1724 Stradivarius violin known as the “Kiesewetter.”
Momo Kodama is one of Japan’s leading pianists. Since becoming the youngest recipient of the highest prize at the Munich International Music Competition in 1991, she has continued to perform at the highest level. She has earned widespread acclaim for her extensive repertoire and rich expressive power, ranging from J. S. Bach to Messiaen and contemporary works. She has also served as a jury member at numerous prestigious international competitions, including the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, the International Chopin Piano Competition, the Long-Thibaud International Competition, and the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition.
For this performance, the two artists will present a diverse selection of masterpieces by J. S. Bach, Ravel, and Franck. Of particular interest is the inclusion of the “Rhapsody” by Baghdasarian, who is regarded as the “father of Armenian music.” Audiences will surely be interested to see how Khachatryan, who was born in Armenia, will bring the music of his homeland to Japanese music lovers.
